Pop Culture #14

Yesterday I was on Netflix and I found out that Season 7 from How I Met your Mother is on Netflix. I spend my whole day watching this show, and I can't wait to see season 8. I really want to know how is gonna be the girl that Ted is gonna marry because so far everybody got marry in the show except for Ted.

Pop Culture # 13

This week is Thanksgiving so I am going to South Carolina with my family. We always go to spend this time with my stepmother's family during thanksgiving. Also my brother's girlfriend is coming with us to meet our family. One of the things that I love about this trips is that even though they are not my family, they made my brother and I feel like we were part of their family and I really love to spend time with them. :) Have a wonderful and save Thanksgiving everybody!!!

Pop Culture # 12

Netflix has became an addiction to me because they have some many good shows that I can't to stop watching . Last week I found a new show called, Once Upon A Time. This show is about a girl called Emma who is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. There is a town called Storybrooke in which all the characters from various fairy tales live there, but they don't remember who they were because the Evil Queen put a curse in them and they were transported to the real world. The only hope that they have is Emma, she is the only one that can broke the curse, but they problem is that she doesn't believe on this. I really like this show and I can't wait to see season 2. =)

Topic 15

I have to work on my paper right now I just have my introduction and my "thesis". I am having trouble putting my information together and also I am not interested in my topic anymore. Anyways this weekend I have to work on my paper and I will do my best to put all of my information together.

Organization

I made an outline to help me out to put my information together. I think that this is very helpful because I can point out the argument that I am making in my essays and also it helps me to keep my information in order. In a way that I know where exactly I am going to put all of my sources.

Pop Culture # 11

I found another show called, Hart of Dixie this show is super interesting and funny. This shows is about a Zoe Hart who is a doctor. She moved to a small town in Alabama called Bluebell.  She is from New York, so everything that the people do in the town is kind a new for her. Also she struggles with her feeling because she likes George Tucker, but he is engage whit Lemon. Zoe is always helping people around town, and it is very hard for her to fit in Bluebell, but she met some incredible friends such as Lavon, which is the mayor of Bluebell. Anyways this show is very funny and I just love it. Plus is on Netflix!!!!!

Writing about Popular Culturar.

For this essay I am going to use Research and Argumentative methods because I want to persuade somebody else with my topic which is Heavy Metal music, and how it has a negative influence on people. Also I will use research in this essay because I have to have reliable information about my topic which is gonna help me out to back up the argument about my topic. 

In the sample paper, the  student use some good strategies for her essay. For example, she is using argumentation in her paper, also she summarize her information pretty well and have a good organization. She also described all of her photos pretty well. Also I think that using a outline is a good idea because it helps you to quit track on you paper and also to have a good organization.

Pop Culture # 10

Yesterday I went to see the movie Hotel Transylvania with my friends. It was an awesome movie and it was funny too. However, one of the things that we really enjoyed was, the movie theater was empty, so we had the whole auditorium for ourselves. I didn't know that during the week the movie theater was so empty, so after yesterday I know what is the best day to watch a movie. =)

Pop Culture # 9

As always when I just finished a new Netflix always suggests me another show to watch. Last week I found a show called Revenge, this show is about Emily is Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for a crime he didn't commit and sent to prison for life. She was permanently separated from him and never saw him again. Noe she returned to the Hampton's to get revenge to the people that blame her father for a crime he didn't do it. I think I am on episode number 10 and every time the show is getting more and more interesting plus Emily is a good lair and she is taking down every single of the people who blame her framed her father. I love Netflix, but sometimes this is a huge distraction for me.

I found an E-book called Heavy Metal Music in Britain. I found this book on the library and I just going to use Chapter 8. This particular chapter  has some of the information that I need for my topic. This chapter told about it the emphasis that Heavy Metal has in its music and how is portrayed and have a connection with the Devil and darkness. It used as an example Black Sabbath which is a band that had a very deep meaning of Satan and destruction on their music. The reference in their song lyrics to Lucifer which take control over  people or an individual. The darkness part of Heavy Metal music the devil display a very important character in this genre.
This sources is reliable and this information will help me prove my argue about how heavy metal has a negative stereotype on people that listening to this kind of music.

Pop Culture # 8

I choose Heavy Metal as my topic for this next paper. I think that this kind of genre of music is very interesting, and I have some friends how are really into this kind of music such as Black Metal, Hardcore, death metal ,and some many others. But this kind of music is very extreme I mean they singers screen  so loud that you can briefly understand what are they singing. I really like Heavy Metal this kind  of genre is not that extreme and most all the time I listened in Spanish. There are so good bands such as Saratoga and Warcry their music is awesome and their lyrics are beautiful. I think that what I am going to focus on my essay is how some people thinks that this kind of music is evil and have a very influence in people. Also I know that I am going to learned a lot about this topic.!! =)

Citations

Well I learned how to use MLA when I was a sophomore in high school. At first it was a little confusing, but after all the paper that I've writing during pass 5 years I think that MLA is the best way to cited your information. Also this is the only citation style that I learned and I really like it, just sometimes I have to go back and review how to cite books, articles, or journals. Also I have to write an essay for my U.S History class, so my professor wants me to use Chicago style and I haven't use this  citation style, so I really hope it is easy to cite. However, I  might be like MLA but in a very difference form.

Pop Culture # 7

Today is the premiere of the "The Vampire Diaries" season 4, and I can't wait to see it. I am wondering if Elena is going to turn into a vampire in this season, and also I am pretty sure that she is going to chose Stefan and Damon probably is going to die for her. I just guessing what is gonna happen in this season, and I know that this is probably what is going to happen. This show really reminds me to Twilight and it has a lot of similarities like the vampires, the wolves, and how two man fall in love for the same girl. Anyways I love this kind of shows and I just cannot wait to see this new season. =)

Topic 10/11

Well so far I found a book called, "Living in Spanglish" I found this book on the library I used the course guide that the librarian told us to use to find books or articles. However, I decided to choose  a different topic Heavy Metal music and how some people react to this kind of music because of the sounds and style that they have. I find this topic very  interesting, so tomorrow I'll try ti find some articles about it, or maybe I will be able to find a book. Also I think that I will be able to find good sources in the library. One of the advantage about it is that all of their sources are reliable.

Pop Culture # 6

I just started watching a show called ''The Secret Circle"  and I just love it. The show is about a six teenager witches that are trying to figure out how their magic works. Event though, I love all the shows that Netflix has, this is a huge distraction for me. 

The Shadow Scholar

One of the things that I had learned from my  previous classes is how to organized my information. Especially when I have to write an essay that requires more than source, it is really important to me  to make an outline just to make sure how I am organized my essay. When it comes to write an essay in which I have to do a research I make sure that I get my sources first, then after that I stared looking for the information that I am going to use. This help me to put my information together and when I start writing I know where can I find the information that I am looking for.
"The Shadow Scholar" is a very interesting article I cannot believe that student pay somebody to do their work. I think that what he is doing is wrong , and for all the people that pay to to their work. It is so unethical because they are gonna be processionals that did not know to to write an essay about an specific topic or assignment about their majors. It has a bad image not only on the people cheat, but also education in general. As he said those how paid him to do their work are gonna be the "future educators of America'. I prefer to get a B or a C by at lest I did  my work by myself. Also never cheap because that is wrong to do, and I will feel guilty with myself if I do it.  

Pop Culture # 5

Well this week I found a new band called  Seabird, and I cannot stop listen to one of their songs called "Don't You Know You're Beautiful". Every time that I listened to the song I remember my mom, maybe is because I missed her so much and the lyrics of the song have a lot of meaning for me. You know when you find a song who say everything that you are feeling right now.  Also I think their other songs are great too. I love to find new music to add to my iPod. =)

Post 9/25

Well I think that one of the skill that I have learned is how to manager my time. Especially now that we are getting so busy in our classes, I am trying to make time to do homework and study during the week. Also I have  to do a lot of reading this semester especially in my Hispanic Literature, Biology, and English. Last semester I didn't have to read that much, so I think I am getting use to. I think that this class is helping me to work harder when we have to write an essay because we don't have a lot of time. Also one of the things that is really going to help me this semester is the Writing Center. They really help you to review your essay and they tell you what you are doing right or wrong. I'm definitely going to use the writing center this semester a lot.   

Pop Culture # 4

On Wednesday I went to see this play called, Yo Soy Latina. The play was about  3 women who share the meaning to be Latina. Each one a them have a different character in which they tell who hard it is for them to understand what make them latinas. One of the things that some people have to face is that they came from to different cultures. If your mom or dad can speak Spanish and don't teach you, they are taking for you part of your culture. Well I also know that to be latina is not just to Speak Spanish and know everything about the culture, because in the play there were a woman who was an American, but her mom was from Cuban. However, she said something that really make me think even though she doesn't how to speak Spanish. She is latina in her own way and she loved the culture. I love the play and even though I really miss my country. I am so proud to be a Latina and now that I making my future  and life in this country I wan to be successful in my career and things that I am going to do in my life like all of the latinas how are following their dreams.

Johnson and Stevens

Well in Johnson's articles he claims that watch TV make you smarter, but I disagree with him. I don't believe that making TV can make people smarter. Well it we watch shows such as Discovery Channel, History or so many others shows in which we are learning something. Dane Stevens respond to Johnson's article "Watching TV Makes You Smarter". She strongly disagree with Johnson's article, she said argued Johnson main point in which he said that TV make us smarter. She defend her position using new examples or using information about Johnson's article such as 24 (a show  he singles out as particularly "nutritional") . But this show has some controversies about the representation of Muslim terrorists in the show. After all, in her article Stevens really made good points about how she disagree with Johnson. 

Pop Culture # 3

On Thursday night my brother and I went to eat in Mexican  restaurant  with some other friends. We decided to get carne asada (roast beef) usually when we went to a Mexican restaurant we always ask them if we can have more rice instead of tortillas, because we don't eat tortillas in our country we eat rice a lot. However, when the waitress bring us the carne asada everything looks so good, but when stared eating the food was so spice. I think they put some jalapenos in our food, and our mouths were on fire literally. I just don't get it sometimes just because Mexico eat a lot specie food and tortillas that doesn't mean that every country in Latin America does the same. Even though were speak the same language and maybe we look a like that doesn't mean that we have the same cultures. Since I moved to live here I had met people for some other countries such as Mexico, Cuba, and  Dominican Republic and every single one have different cultures and tradition. Also our Spanish is very different from their Spanish. I just wish some people realized that we are some different and that they understand that Mexico is not the only country who speak Spanish. 

"Shitty First Drafts"

I think that Anne Lamont's advice in "Shitty First Drafts" was very interesting. I feel like she was describing me because every time that I have to write an essay I have not idea where to start. However her idea to just sit down and write everything that come to your mind can help you to find the right track. Well actually that is what I did today when I was writing my essay at first I did not what to put but then I start writing different things about my topic and suddenly I got 3 pages. Now I just have to go over again and review like she said i just my first draft.  

Well I think that Student A did I good job in his essay. I really like the way how he summarize Johnson article and how he also used some shows to prove his point an argument against his article about TV makes you smarter.

Pop Culture #2

R.L Stine is one of my favorites authors a just love the way he wrote his books. I am a huge fan of Fear Street witch is a series of books about terror. I've read at least 10 books of his Fear Street series. I love books about mystery and terror even thought I have scary movies. When I am reading one of his books I really get engaged with the character and the story in general. He also has around 100 books about this series and all of them are different stories about teenager who have to face tragic situations. Also in the majority of his book there is always someone who dies. My favorite book about his series is Switched  after I read that book, he become one of my favorite authors and I wish I can read all of his books. =)

Pop Culture

I am watching this show called, Scrubs and I just love it. The show is about a group of  doctors who have to deal with their patients and also with their lives . Dr. John Michael "J.D." Dorian which is one of the main character, he is the one who tells the story and what is happening in the hospital.  The show occurs most one the time in the hospital and every character has to deal with their own problem, but at the end of each episode all of the have learned a valuable lesson.

Class Discussion

Well I was a little lost at first and to be honest I wasn't prepare for class today. I read the sample essay  and not the article so it was my mistake. I don't like to talk so this mean that I am not contributing in our discussion in class, but I also notices that we have to give our opinion and discuss because it sees this is a fundamental step in this class. I know that talking about  what we read it will help us to put information together. I also know that there is just one of two people who talk in class in given their opinion or argument about what we read. So I will try to my best to be prepare for class and to be part of our discussion in class.

Watching TV Makes You Smarter

In the article of Steven Johnson," Watching TV Makes You Smarter" he believes that watching TV or play video games make people smarter. He argues that earlier shows only follow one or two character and they were very simple. The shows that people watch in these days are more complex and follow one to ten character in witch the show really make you pay close attention to see what is going on. I honestly disagree with his argument that if we watch TV you are gonna be smart. Even though some of the shows that we watch on  TV can be sometimes entertain and maybe can give us a difference perspective about the world. I probably agree that when we are watching a show we a making a cognitive with the show in which we are taking the information and process in our brains, and we are paying close attention to what they character in the show are doing and how they solve their problems. According to Johnson people can learn the skill or solving problem watching TV, but one of the things that it is different between a show and the real world. It is that in a show when they characters have a problem they make look like it so easy to solve a problem, but in real life it is not that easy. I will agree with Johnson article if he will say that if people watch show if witch they are gathering information that are value for them. 

Introducing Myself

My name is Gaby Rodriguez and I am from Ecuador South America. My major is Spanish and I am a sophomore. I love to read books about Mystery and my favorite music is rock, reggae, and ska. My favorite author is R.L Stine I love the way he wrote his books and the way he tells the stories. Well sometimes is hard to find the information that you are looking especially when you are doing a research and argumentation. I have some experience doing research paper, but one of the part that it is very hard to do when you are doing a research is cited the information correctly.

Skill

The skill that I have acquired is how to speak a Foreign Language. I have been living in the United States for 5 years. When I came here I did not how to speak English it was so hard and frustrating not to able to understand what people around me were saying. I took me a year to learn the language and to be honest with you English it is a hard language to learn because you write and pronounce different. However I was hard but not impossible as everybody say if you want to be good in something you have to practice a lot of. One of the things that motivated me were my dad and my brother because they have to pass for the same thing that I was going through. And after all they learned the language and I knew that if they did I was going to do it too.
I think that one of the things that I can applied for the skill that I have in my writing, it is that if I want to become a good writer I have to practice and do review over and over again every single essay that we write this semester. This will help me not only to correct my mistakes, but also it will help me to put my thoughts together. Also with dedication and determination I will be able to write good essays.
